Danny and the other dad, Derek, left early this morning for the long trip to our daughter’s city and orphanage - they aren‘t expected to return until very late as the trip is 6 hours one way.  The orphanage director changed his mind and decided to let them visit the orphanage.  So they plan to take many pictures there and of the city as well.  Therefore, I won’t be posting any pictures today since he has the camera.

I wanted to provide an update on Caroli.  She does not cry as often now when looking at us.  I guess she realizes she’s stuck with us.  It was nice having the entire day today with her - hopefully, some bonding took place.  She does smile some now - that is so good to see.  She had no fever today - another good thing. She is such a sweaty baby though - but her head isn’t warm.  However, her rash is no better and is causing her a great deal of discomfort.  Dr. Staat at the Univ of Cinci took a look at the photo we emailed and responded that she didn’t think it was scabies or the measles.  She said it could be a heat rash, a viral rash or eczema.  She said to continue with the moisturizing and to give her Benadryl for the itching.

I don’t think there was much relief today though - hopefully tomorrow.  She has a really hard time getting to sleep - the itching seems much worse then. She is quite inconsolable and has to be rocked to sleep (guess it’s a distraction) and then put in the crib - otherwise, she can’t go down herself.

I cannot wait to get her home and to have a pediatrician assessment - we need to get her on proper nutrition and see about the developmental issues.  She seems more like a 3 month old rather than an 8 month old.  In fact, we had her out at lunch yesterday for the first time since we got her and a local asked if she was 3 months.

Her appetite is ok - she does need to drink more formula though.  But I bet she’s drinking more now than what she was getting in the orphanage though.  We are also glad that her bowel movements have been normal and her wet diapers have increased - she’s definitely more hydrated now than when we first got her.

I’m sure Danny will have many interesting things to report tomorrow about his trip today.  Hopefully we’ll have some improvement to report on Caroli also.
